Flash News: Dozens of rockets targets the US-led coalition base in Syria

BREAKING NEWS: Violent bombardment with dozens of rockets targets the US-led coalition Base at the Conico gas field, North of Deir Ezzor. The Conoco field is named for the American company which discovered the gas reserves and built a processing plant there.

It has been the target of U.S. strikes and was used to supply cooking gas canisters for household use. Before the conflict, it supplied gas to power stations. The biggest gas field in Syria was captured by the American forces in 2017.

The shelling took place from the “Muayzila” desert, which is under the control of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Hêzên Sûriya Demokratîk. The Syrian Democratic Forces is an alliance in the Syrian Civil War composed primarily of Kurdish, Arab, and Assyrian/Syriac militias, as well as some smaller Armenian, Turkmen and Chechen forces.

The SDF is militarily led by the People’s Protection Units, a mostly Kurdish militia.

Deir Ez-Zor is the largest city in eastern Syria and the seventh-largest in the country. Since the discovery of light crude petroleum in the Syrian desert it has become a centre for the country’s petroleum needs
