India Enters Top 20 Defense Exporter List for the Frist time.

India is fast becoming a major player in defence sectors. Under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an ambitious was started to make India a major arms export.

Government of India has worked hard and indeed succeeded and lived up to its promise on this front.

India’s defence export has grown by 700% in two years as per 2019 data. India ranked at 19th in the list of top 20 defence exported globally.

On September 9th, Wednesday, Indian Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat made this surprise announcement.

“We witnessed a staggering 700% growth in defence exports from Rs 1521 crores in 2016-17 to Rs 10,745 crores in 2018-19…an all-time high ranking of 19th in the list of defence exporters in 2019,” CDS Rawat said on Wednesday.

Nearly 10,745 cr worth of export was made by India in the year 2018-2019 alone. Which seems lots lesser than the current fiscal year. We can expect a much bigger number for the year 2019-2020.

The Indian government in the process of boosting defence export in India under the clarion call for Atmanirbhar Bharat which was formulated in August.

The overall goal of India with this policy, the formulation is to the active turnover of 175000 Rs crores. Which will be for the weapon platforms made in India. Among which Rs 35,000 crores through export, service and through aerospace sectors.

The Indian defence ministry has also blacklisted 101 weapon platforms for imports. So these will further boost India’s self-reliance policy, especially in the defence sector.

It’s been speculated that more platforms could be added to the blacklist for imports in near future.

India is growing its influence globally at a very faster pace. Experts say India to spend more than 10 trillion dollars by 2030-2035.

When these procurements are made within India then it will have a growth stimulation in a wide range of defence sector.
