Indian buffalo jockey breaks Usain Bolt record, completes 100 metres in just 8.96 seconds

Noted Kambala jockey Srinivas Gowda, who was termed Usain Bolt of Kambala last year has created a new World Record this year by completing 100 metres in just 8.96 seconds in ‘Soorya Chandra Jodukere’ Kambala. In comparison The men’s 100m world record holder is Usain Bolt, with a time he set in 2009. The record stands at 9.58 seconds. For the women, American Florence Griffith-Joyner set the world record way back in 1988, with an effort of 10.49 seconds.

Gowda covered the 125 metre-long Kambala track in 11.21 seconds. On calculating the speed versus distance, he covered 100 metres in just 8.96 seconds and broke his own previous records, the organisers said.

A year ago, he had created a record by covering a 100 metre-track in 9.55 seconds. Later, Bajgoli Nishanth Shetty broke the record by covering 100 metres in 9.52 seconds at Venoor Kambala.
Kambala is an annual race held in Karnataka where people sprint through paddy fields with buffaloes.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka. Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi of Karnataka and Kasaragod of Kerala, a region collectively known as Tulu Nadu.
