Just In: India to get first S400 regiment by end of this year: Russia

Indian Armed Forces are about to get a major boost in defensive capabilities. Much awaited Russian made long-range S400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile defense system to be delivered soon.

Vladimir Drozhzhov, the Deputy Head of the Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation told the reporters at the Aero India 2021. Aero India is a biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Bengaluru, India at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. It is organized by the Defence Exhibition Organisation, Ministry of Defence.

Mr. Vladimir Drozhzhov said, “The delivery of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system to India is on schedule. The first regiment is expected to be delivered by the end of this year, ”.

India and Russia had inked a $ 5.43 billion contract for the S-400 Triumf ‘SA-21 Growler’ which is a long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system for the Indian Air Force (IAF). As per the contract, IAF is to get five Triumf regimental kits from Russia.

In the hands of competent and well-trained crews, modern long-range SAMs such as the S-400 can inflict significant damage on an adversary. Their ranges allow them to target key enemy enabler aircraft, such as valuable aerial refueling tankers and airborne early warning and control aircraft.
