Racist Britishers mocks Independence seeking Scotland for receiving money from Britain

Racial attack on the people of  Scotland comes at a time, The Scotland’s first minister told British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that a second referendum on Scottish independence was inevitable as Johnson called a crisis summit of the United Kingdom’s devolved nations.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon spoke with Johnson on Sunday for the first time since her pro-independence Scottish National Party won a plurality in Scottish parliamentary elections last week, the SNP said in a statement. Sturgeon reiterated her commitment to another vote on independence from the United Kingdom “when the [covid-19] crisis is over, and made clear that the question of a referendum is now a matter of when — not if,” a party representative said. ( The Washington Post).

Polls late last year showed support for independence peaking at 58 per cent.

The controversy started after the Institute of Fiscal Studies, a British economic research organisation published a report. The report paved the way for British netizens to take slurs and take a pot shot at Scotland.

The IFS(Britain) report stated “ “Where were all the parties intending to get the money from to pay for all these goodies?”

@PJTheEconomist in @thetimes this morning on the absence of costed promises in the Scottish elections.”

The economist and the director of IFS (Britain) Paul Johnson said in a tweet “Public spending per head in Scotland is c.30% higher than in England. Almost entirely paid for by transfers of revenue from England. SNP, and other Scottish parties, promised further big increases in spending, but said nothing about where the money would come from.”

“Interesting replies. (1) Just a fact that spending per head on *devolved services and welfare* is c.30% above that in England. (2) Not a statement about independence. Scotland is as rich per capita as England. It can “afford” to be independent.” Paul Johnson continued. In a way reminding the Scottish about Britain’s richness and wealth might be the reason Scotland must not seek independence from the Union.

The IFS director did not stop just there. He continued with assault on the Scottish political parties and the people “But mostly the article was a complaint about lack of clarity and honesty in all party manifestos. To promise big spending increases with no serious attempt to say how they would be paid for is not good for public understanding.”

A clear motivated half baked truth to propagate and demonise the freedom-loving people of Scotland. The Exchequer and Audit Departments Act 1866 says so in section 13 (2):

“The Comptroller and Auditor General shall, on receipt of a requisition from the Treasury, grant the Treasury a credit on the Exchequer account at the Bank of England (or on its growing balance).”

[The Comptroller and Auditor General is an officer of the House of Commons who is also the head of the National Audit Office].

So, that means that whenever the Treasury demands funds from the Bank of England it can have them, even if that increases the amount owing to the Bank.

Britain will lose the capacity to mint more money if Scotland can become an independent country. Scottish, Irish, and Welsh taxpayers all pay into the UK Treasury. It has nothing to do with English benevolence. They are only getting back the money they pay in. The reality the racist colonial minded Britishers want to forget. Not sure if we can even see Britain sending armed forces to forcefully occupy Scotland.

The ill-informed and politically motivated IFS report was rebutted by several sound economists with facts. One of them is Richard Murphy, An economic justice campaigner and visiting professor at Sheffield University.

He replied “Paul Johnson is wrong. The claim is that public expenditure for Scotland is higher than England, but that is not in Scotland and Scotland gets no tax credit for this, as it also loses out on recording significant revenues. Why doesn’t Johnson point out record systems failing?”

Johnson announces the return of in person teaching at universities – as if he does not know that all teaching is now over for this year. Is he a complete idiot, or just a charlatan?

The motivated IFS article has fueled more hatred towards the people of Scotland.

Here some gem from the racist British netizens responding to this report:
