Severe Blackout all over Pakistan in fear of surgical strikes?

Due to a technical flaw, a sudden power failure occurred all over Pakistan late on Saturday night, due to which all important cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi were completely immersed in darkness. This sudden blackout across the country triggered a lot of rumors on social media.

Pakistani media reported that many cities were completely immersed in darkness. Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqat said the tripping of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company system resulted in a blackout.

At the same time, Energy Minister Omar Ayub has appealed to the people to be patient.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Power informed via Twitter that the sudden drop in the frequency of the power transmission system from 50 to 0 caused a blackout across the country.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy tweeted a picture saying that Energy Minister Omar Ayub himself is overseeing the power restoration work.

Shahbaz Gill, the assistant to the Pakistani PM, told that Energy Minister Omar Ayub and his entire team are working on this breakdown. Also he said that the citizens will soon be updated with the situation.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Shibli Faraj wrote that it was restoring power, terming it a technical flaw in NTDC’s system. Earlier in January 2015 too, once the whole of Pakistan remained without electricity for several hours due to technical flaws.

Residents of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Kasur, and other cities wrote on social media about the blackout. In India too, the hashtag blackout (#blackout) was trending at number one.
