Sonam Wangchuk invent the world’s first solar-heated tents for Indian troops

Innovative Sonam Wangchuk invents World’s first Solar heated tents for Indian forces in an extremely cold climate like Ladakh.

High Altitude ‘Ladakh Tent’ made for IndianArmy and to encourage high altitude winter tourism by an engineer and innovator Wangchuk has gone viral. These new tents can trap heat during the day and stays warm through the night. These kind of solutions are a blessing in disguise for our Indian front line troops guarding our borders against enemies like Pakistan and China.

The new and innovative ten invented by Sonam Wangchuck can comfortably accommodate Ten personnel. A bonus with these tents, that it requires no electricity, coal or and flammable substance to generate heat. Tents work like a miracle but with the help of the latest advancement in technology.

Currently, these tents are been examined and tested at extreme weather conditions in Ladakh. Where India and China engaged in a stiff military power play. The major benefit of using these Wangchuck’s tents that is carbon neutral. Saves a huge sum of money for India’s foreign exchange as of now Indian military imports Artic tents. This innovation could gather stream for local manufacturing process under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s  Make In India dream.

Having said, these are work in progress. A good starting point for a major leap in the thermal tent sectors. If successful, then India could become a major player in this particular field even competing with the global manufacturing tent companies.

The Indian Armed Forces have taken note of these miracle tents invented by Sonam Wangchuk. Forces are onboard the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Initiative. This Vocal for Local initiative may help not only with numbers but also quick procurement to meet the urgent demands.

Here are some interesting report by India’s top defence journalist Gaurav C Sawant for India Today Group:

The cost of these new tents is around Rs. Five Lakh, much lesser than the cost of tents imported from overseas. When it comes to maintenance, these Wangchuk tents are very easy to maintain. It requires no additional heating expense as tents are insulated.

So in short there could be no additional heating expense for the user. Overall 40 pieces to make up one single tent. Each piece doesn’t weigh more than 30 Kg. So easy to put together the tent with multiple layers of Insulation padding.

A simple design! This will have a major impact on our troop’s welfare in these extreme weather condition.
