HERE IS WHAT PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA SAID:

I spoke to the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi this afternoon following the arrival of the first batch of COVID19 vaccines on Monday. I applauded the Indian Government and the people of India for its gift to the world in the form of vaccines & scientific knowledge.

PM Narendra Modi indicated that India would continue to support countries in Africa with a special package of vaccines. India will also support the COVAX facility – a joint initiative of The Vaccine Alliance and the World Health Organization(WHO) – with 13 million doses by the end of February 2021.

The South African President said, “We noted the growing international support for the proposal submitted by South Africa & India to the WTO’s Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Council for a temporary waiver of certain #TRIPS obligations. The waiver will make vaccines more affordable.”

India has so far gifted 50 lakhs of COVID Vaccines to multiple countries. And sold over 100 lakhs vaccines to many several countries. India shows its generous contribution even before meeting its home demands. It is very important to note, India is a country with 1.3 billion people and demands are so high. Even though India shares vaccine with the world.
