Indian Air Force Mig-21 crashed, Pilot lost his life

Sad news coming in from India. The Indian Air Force MiG-21 Bison aircraft of Indian Air Force met with a fatal accident this morning. Incidentally, a fatal accident took place while taking off for a combat training mission at an airbase in Central India.

As per the media sources, the Indian Air Force has lost Group Captain A Gupta in a tragic accident. Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident. This accident has put a big question mark on the phase of which the modernisation been taking place as far as the Indian Air Force are concerned.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Since 1963, India has introduced more than 1,200 MiG fighters into its air force. As of 2019, 113 MiG-21s are known to be in operation in the IAF. However, the plane has been plagued by safety problems. Since 1970 more than 170 Indian pilots and 40 civilians have been killed in MiG-21 accidents.
