Eye On Ladakh, China Test-fired ‘Land Mine’ Laying Rockets

Amidst military escalation at the Line of Actual Control, reports suggest that China’s PLA army has tested a special rocket launcher for laying landmines. These land mines are laid at the border area so that the enemy’s combat vehicles and tanks cannot enter its border.

According to the defence experts, China is doing this to avoid India’s counter-attack. Indian has deployed several combat units along the LAC to challenge the Chinese bully.

As per the latest sources, yet another round of meeting between Corps Commander level of India and China to be held.  Expected to be held in one week time. The standoff between India and China began when PLA troops tried to capture the eastern Ladakh territories. Which belongs to India. Indian forces responded befittingly with counter-movements of troops by capturing in the southern bank of Pangong Tso lake.

On one hand, China wants to end the confrontation through dialogue and on the other hand is preparing for war is at full swing in the Chinese camps.

Under these circumstances, The lastest test is done at a height of about 12 thousand feet to pressure Indian military establishment.

It is reported that China’s PLA army has recently used a special rocket launcher to lay land mines. According to the Chinese government news channel, CCTV-Military, the PLA Army’s Tibet Command recently conducted a successful test of these rocket launchers. These rocket launchers are deployed on trucks and then the land mine is fired from the rocket and placed around anywhere in the border area.

Given the threat of China’s land mines on LAC, India recently signed an agreement to take 1512 mine-ploughs for Rs 557 crore. The government undertaking, BEML (Bharat Earth-Movers Limited), will prepare and submit these mine-ploughs to the Army. These land mines will be placed in front of the T-90 tank so that the land mines can be cleaned while entering the enemy range.

Up to 40 launchers can be deployed on one truck. However, the range of these launchers has not been stated, but according to the information, they can be ‘combated-lockdown’ by firing on high altitude areas. The Chinese Army itself tested these special rocket launchers at an altitude of about 12 thousand feet.

The UN has banned the anti-personal land mines. Around 150 countries around the world are part of the Mine-Bain Conventions Treaty. But China is not a part of this treaty and that is why it is testing such land mines. However, China has not clarified whether it has tested anti-person mines or anti-vehicle land mines.
