A million dollars question. How much ram is enough for gaming in 2020? This article will focus mainly on this topic exclusively to help our readers and gamers all around the world.

Ram plays a very important role in a gaming rig. Too much ram is always a bad idea and that extra money can be spent on something else like a graphics card or even getting a better CPU.

What is RAM and How it works?

Random Access Memory does what its name suggests – Storage to access data. Unlike a hard disk, a RAM will store the computing data which are vital for your PC to operate very quickly. So in basic term RAM, you will need will depend upon how much programs or multitasking you want to run.

For professional productivity 32 gigs, RAM is a must while it is not the case for you as a gamer. Hopefully, you got the idea of the fictionality of RAM.

As I explained above the capacity of RAM required will depend upon the tasks you do. So I have divided the common RAM configuration for different situations. Subjects will include Gaming, Home PC, Productivity workload.

How much Ram needed for a light usage Home PC:

Very one uses our PCs for different purposes. I have 2 desktop computers and one laptop.

While Laptop is a different subject altogether and most of the laptops come with at least 4-8 GB of RAM nowadays. Even then Home PC and Laptops have similar usage.

If you are looking for a Home PC MACHINE USED FOR Light tasks like watching YouTube, surfing on the internet, typing, watching movies online, and from disk or USB drive. All can be done efficiently with just 2 GB of RAM capacity.

There will be some hiccups here and there when you are running a 64-bit Windows OS and have multiple tasks running in the background.

With 2 GB Ram Rank you can survive with light tasks but don’t expect to have blazing speed performance other than general tasks like I mentioned above. But it is advisable to have a 4 gig RAM for a much smoother experience for light usage.

With 4 gig your PC can handle a good amount of multitasking.

How much RAM required for gamers in 2020:

Most probably most of you came to this article to find out how much RAM capacity is required. If you are planning to run a Morden title like PUBG with 2 gigs or 4 gigs of RAM? You can do it with a low setting in 720P.

But you will have lots of stutters now and then. It will be a waste of resources in 2020.

In today’s second-hand or prebuilt PC market you will find 4 GIG RAM in most of them. But this is not enough for today’s gaming tasks.

If you are planning to have a good gaming experience you should invest your money on at least 8 GB of RAM capacity.

May it be single stick 8 gig or two 4 GB sticks. It doesn’t matter as far as you are running an Intel-based CPU.

But if you have AMD Ryzen processors always stick with dual-channel RAM sticks.

So 8 GB of RAM is enough for Gaming in 2020?

With 8 gigs of RAM capacity, almost all games will run fluently without any issues.

With little tweaks required for heavy game titles or if you wish to play your games at a higher resolution other than 1080P.

So the concessions have to be made here and there when needed.

But if you can provide an additional 8 gig of RAM. That is 16 GB RAM, then this could be your best configuration in 2020.

Many titles need more RAM capacity than 8 gigs too. With 16GB you are set to have a very smooth gaming experience.

And your RAM will not run out of memory at least for the next 2 to 3 years too.

How much RAM required for Productivity workflow and Streamers:

Today we have lots of opportunities to earn money with just playing games. Why not stream your game while playing and make money out of it.

When you do so you will have to publish your videos and make some design or editing your videos.

If you are already into this or want to become a streamer then 16 GB could be your ideal spot.

So with my above explanation, you can see 16 GB could be our Ideal setup for gaming or a Productivity PC.

I have tried streaming and gaming for many years. I have found that these tasks can be achieved even with 8 Gig of RAM only if you are planning to stream with Nvidia’s graphic cards.

But even then 8 gigs will suffer a lot of overloads in many instances. So 16 Gig will the ideal RAM capacity.

So what is the point of having 32 GB RAM capacity? Why it is popular?

As I said in the above explanation each and everyone has our own needs of tasks we perform. And also how fast we want it to perform.

32 Gig RAM is very popular among the professionals and also with competitive gamers and big streamers.

Who wants to have the razor edge in gaming and productivity tasks. It is also a kind of future-proofing as-well.

So 32 GB of RAM capacity is not the ideal choice but it is always nice to have more RAM capacity if you can afford it.

It will take another decade or so to see 32 GIG becoming a necessity for gaming.

So the Conclusion is?

In 2020 you are good with 8 gigs and better with 16 gigs for gaming and streaming tasks. Productive software works like butter with 16 gigs generally as more computing data can be stored in the Random Access Memory(RAM) at a much faster speed.

2GB or 4 GB will be a bad idea to invest in 2020.

If you are looking for upgrading with more RAM in future with another 4 gig RAM stick well its fine. But if you want to game at 1080P high resolution then better go with 8 GB RAM.
